The numbers are a moving target, manipulated through including or excluding certain economic categories in order to produce the wanted narrative. The definition of a "recession" keeps being changed. And I would love to know why you think Putin cares about the actual numbers that make up our economy. It seems to me he has enough to worry about with his own. Don't you believe your own experience? The cost of food had almost doubled in the U.S. in 2022 alone, but food is "excluded" from inflation numbers - as if eating were optional. The inflation numbers, as well as the rest of the economic measurements the government reports, are garbage.
The last president to balance the budget was Bill Clinton in the 1997 Balanced Budget Act which led to an immediate recession in 1998 when government spending declined.
I can assure you that there was a localized recession in healthcare; I had fully licensed professionals who, at the time, were making $60-$70,000 a year showing up in my office and offering to work for $15 an hour.
I can’t speak to the broader economy, other than what I read in the headlines.
I’ve often wondered how productive it would be to try to re-calculate the “true“ inflation rate or unemployment rate or whatever rate you’re talking about.
But then I watched the Tucker Carlson interview with Vladimir Putin who made a reference to something that depended on the inflation rate.
And Putin simply used the number I had just seen in the headlines.
I figured if it’s good enough for Vladimir Putin then it’s good enough for me.
Except the budget was not "balanced". Sleight of hand trick - "borrowing" excess Social Security deposits, placing them in the General Fund and issuing IOU's to cover the money taken from SS; then calling the budget "balanced". I have doubts there was even a recession. DC has been cooking the books for decades.
Thanks Mike. ❤️ Being a bean counter, it is difficult for me to understand how people don't get this. I pray for all countries' leadership every day. I am hoping for the best and preparing for the worst; but my faith is strong and I am not afraid. May God's perfect will be done.
Love the title. Most people have heard "it's the economy stupid", but not, "it's the money supply stupid"
Every single empire throughout history devalued their currency near the end.

It would be interesting to pull on that thread. I don't believe anything the government has said anymore.
